When the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776, the American colonies still needed to win the Revolutionary War to truly gain their independence from the British Empire. The war continued another seven years until September 3, 1783. One of the deadliest threats to the Continental Army, however, was not the British Army, it was disease, especially smallpox.
As America emerges from the Fourth of July weekend, there’s another important reminder this month of why we should cherish our freedom and liberty. July marks the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). CCP officials have already been holding celebrations to paint a positive image of their work on the world stage. While the CCP pushes propaganda on the anniversary of its founding, it’s important that Americans understand how the communist regime operates.
The 2021 Prairie Pioneer Days kicked off last Friday, July 2md with the Health Fair. The two days of fun ended with a slow pitch softball tournament and firework show at the Arapahoe ballfield the night of Saturday, July 3rd. Last week, Governor Pete Ricketts joined representatives from Pinpoint Communications for a 1-day tour of broadband-served businesses in Southwest Nebraska in an effort to better understand the direct impact of CARES Act funding. By receiving this funding from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development, Pinpoint continued to expand its footprint to serve more overlooked locations in rural Nebraska by providing Fiber- Optic Broadband services up to 10 GB.

25 Years Ago June 27, 1996 Dennis Chesterman and Rick Bieghler are pictured with a 25-year service award presented to the Beaver City Power Plant from the National Weather Service Office in Hastings for their contributions as local weather observers. City Marshal Robert Hester reports the Beaver City Swimming Pool was broken into Friday night and again Sunday night.

10 years ago The Furnas County Relay for Life, raised more than $40,000 with donations and some are still coming in and being counted. There were more than 100 in attendance, and 40 cancer survivors.
