Oxford discusses growth

Body
The Village of Oxford Board had some discussion on growth in the community during the clerk’s report at their meeting on Monday, December 6. Chairman Clint McQuiston said “we need to be proactive to get new business instead of reactive”. He said they also need to work with the HOPE group to help with new business start-up in town. McQuiston said he would like to have all the information a potential new business would need when looking at Oxford together in one place. It was also felt that Oxford has a lot to offer and promote the things that are not in other communities. Housing is an issue so they also need to look at housing growth opportunities. There was also discussion on the large buildings in town that need taken down. Calde-rone said they need a plan for this and estimates on cost to be able to move forward in the years to come.

Wildland fire north of Bartley

Body
On Thursday, fire trucks were dispatched at 12:46 p.m. to a wildland fire approximately 15 miles north of Bartley at Road 710 and West Lake Road Drive by Trail 17. Units responding were Bartley, Cambridge, Red Willow Western, Farnam, Indianola, Curtis and Maywood. Various other farmers and ranchers and businesses were on scene with water trucks. EMS Farnam and Bartley also had ambulances at the site. “Conditions were tough due to rough pastures, and we had to cut fences to get to the north side of the fire,” said Dustin Morris, Bartley fire chief. About 120 acres burned and trucks returned back to the barns at approximately 5 p.m. “Just a reminder to all that due to dry conditions we are experiencing – we all need to be fire-aware and safe,” said Morris.
