Tri Valley Health System Diabetes Support Group

The Tri Valley Health System monthly diabetes support group will be held on Monday, December 6 at 5:00 p.m. in the Meadowlark Meeting Room, which can be accessed through the Wellness Center entrance or the main entrance. A Dexcom representative will be discussing continuous glucose monitoring. Tri Valley Health System invites anyone with the diagnosis of diabetes as well as a support person to join the free support group and there’s no need to pre-register. This Christmas season Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge will once again join the national Wreaths Across America mission. Wreaths Across America was started in 1992 by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester, who began to place wreaths at veterans’ stones in Arlington National Cemetery.

Spots still available for housing rehab in Bartley

West Central Nebraska Development District has funds remaining for the Regional owner-occupied housing rehabilitation program. Homeowners must live in the home, have $25,000 of equity in the home, obtain homeowners insurance, be income qualified and be in the municipal limits of Bartley. Gross income for a family of 4 cannot be greater than $84,360. Applications will be received on a first-come, first-served basis. The maximum allowable funding per home rehab is $25,000; given in the form of a forgivable loan. Applications may be picked up at the Village Office at 101 West Walnut Street, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The application period opens December 2, 2021 and closes December 15, 2021. RUSSELL “CORKY” BURTON

Russell “Corky” Burton age 76 formerly of McCook, passed away at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Saturday, November 27, 2021. He was born in Stratton, NE on May 17, 1945 to Lucius Cecile and Lois (Ungles) Burton. Corky had 6 siblings: Dick, Pat, Bob, Peg, Ray and Pam. Lois spent the days singing, playing music, filled the day with laughter, making Corky inclusive in all family activities. Corky worked for a brief time at SWATS. He loved to garden and sell the surplus. Corky enjoyed the SWAT dances, bowling, and riding his three wheeled bike with his dogs in the basket around McCook. Corky was very social and made many friends in McCook or wherever he would go, Texas, Colorado, North Dakota and eastern NE. Corky enjoyed the family meals and get togethers. Corky was an Ambassador of Love. The family appreciates all the friends and, communities of southwest NE that looked out for Corky and befriended him. Corky loved his pets: Patsy Cline and Pebbles.

GWENDOLYN J. DEBBAN

Gwendolyn J. Debban passed away Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha at the age of 92. Gwen was born February 2, 1929 in Elwood, Nebraska to Francis and May (Moncrief) Bannister. Following her high school graduation, she went on to earn a teaching certificate. On May 29, 1949 she married her childhood sweetheart, Dale Debban. Their union was blessed with 4 children, Cynthia, David, Douglas, and Donald. Gwen worked as a bookkeeper at a lumber yard for many years. She was a long time member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Elwood. Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Donald and Edward Bannister, her husband of 56 years Dale Debban, granddaughter Monica Rose Debban, father -in-law Richard Debban, mother-in-law Hedwig Koitsch Debban, 7 brother-in-laws, and 6 sister-in-laws. Survivors include her daughter Cynthia Petermann (Marlin) of Omaha, sons David Debban (Shelley) of Hickman, Douglas Debban (Donna) of Lincoln, Donald Debban (Robin) of Elwood, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Meridee Debban, and a host of nieces and nephews who were very special to her.
