The Southwest National Honor Society delivered gifts to 48 kids and 15 food baskets this Christmas season. We want to thank everyone who 1) takes stars and buys gifts/food baskets and 2) those who donate monetarily - your donations this year helped us buy a winter coat for every child! We also would like to thank Adams Bank & Trust of Indianola and Stockmens Bank (State Bank) of Bartley for allowing us to put up the Wish Trees in their lobbies! As the saying goes, "It takes a village", and our school district is one of the best about caring for their village!

Sorry for not getting a column in for the last several weeks. Getting ready for company, and having company got in the way of finding time to sit down and get it done. And with end of the year bookwork, recovering from company, etc. I didn’t have time to make calls for Christmas and New Year’s news. I’ll try to catch up next week.

McCook, Nebraska—Adults who have experienced a recent loss of a loved one are invited to join Community Hospital’s grief support group, which begins February 1. The support group meets for eight weeks on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Huntley, Nebraska is a small village between Holdrege and Alma, Nebraska just off US highway 183. Pioneers came to the area around 1872 and established the community with a general store, church, cemetery, and a post office. It was incorporated in 1913 with a population of 200. The population has dwindled to only 44 today. At one time in had two churches. There is still a Methodist Church in town. The town has had four different schools; a soddy, a one-room frame house, a twostory wooden building, and a two-story brick building. It is sad to see so many towns and villages disappear across the prairies. Each one of them are filled with past memories.
