LINCOLN - Dr. Corey Walters, who heads a science-based ag extension program at UN-L’s Department of Agricultural Economics and Center for Ag Profitability, encourages Nebraska’s farmers to persevere and strategize. He says it is important for farmers to develop a production budget to keep their planning focused as they manage decisions for cropping practices, input usage, and risk management.

CAMBRIDGE – Fertilizer is essential to crop production. According to a Texas A&M Study conducted on behalf of the Nebraska Corn Board, fertilizer expenditures represent approximately 36% of all operating costs for corn producers. There are three main types of fertilizer: nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Depending on the crop and soil, a famer may use all three types.

100 Years Ago March 12, 1922 County officials were busy tearing out the mill dam in the Sappa, just south of Stamford. This dam was built by George Zulauf about 35 years ago and for many years furnished the power to run the Stamford mill, which burned down a year and a half ago.

25 Years Ago February 27, 1997 Tyler Powell of Southern Valley placed 3rd at 112 pounds in Class C in the state wrestling tournament. Despite a valiant effort and aggressive defense, the Southern Valley Lady Eagles were unable to pull off the upset over the C-1 #1 rated Gothenburg Swedes.
