It’s an exciting time of year. The robes, mortar boards, and tassels are on display as Nebraska’s graduates are celebrating with their friends and loved ones. I am always so encouraged to see our state’s young people succeed and pursue new opportunities.

Grit and determination. Readiness to help at a moment’s notice. Willingness to work long and hard. Steadfastness in the face of difficulty. These are the qualities that define us as Nebraskans. And we saw them on full display last month as our state battled the worst fires in a decade.

Seniors from Arapahoe, Cambridge, Elwood, Southern Valley and Southwest each graduated this weekend. More pictures from graduation ceremonies can be found inside and a full listing of sholarships and recognitions will appear in the next issue. Congratulations to the Class of 2022.

The 2022 Primary election was held Tuesday with a number of local races being decided. In some races, the outcomes from Tuesday determined results for November’s general election as some races only featured candidates from one party.

BERTAND - The Cambridge boys and girls track and field days performed at their highest levels of the season and largely dominated in taking home team titles at the RPAC track and field meet in Bertrand Thursday. The Cambridge girls scored 164 points on the day, nearly doubling up runner-up Maywood-Hayes Center, which scored 87.

Barbara K. Roberts, age 84, passed away on April 29, 2022, in Phoenix, Arizona, surrounded by the love of her family. Barbara was born on March 18, 1938, in Cambridge, Nebraska, to Lester and Vera Johnson.

The 52nd Annual Cornhusker State Trap Shoot was held in Doniphan, NE April 28th thru April 30th. More than 2400 Students attended the 3-day Shoot.

Oxford - Southern Valley’s Kamden Bose took the individual title and led the Eagles to a runner-finish at the RPAC Golf Meet. Braxton Hammond, sixth, and Matt Henderson, ninth, also medaled for the Eagles, who finished with a 413.
