Phase 1 has been completed by Silverlight Construction on the Cambridge Area Rotary Club shade/shelter in the downtown park. Some of the Rotary members went and did some work at the park recently. Joe Pickenpaugh joined them so they could present Joe with the check for a completed job. A big thank you on a job well done. Anyone is welcome to go and enjoy the Rotary Downtown Park. Cambridge City Council met in regular session on Wednesday, July 6, 2022. Council members Tony Groshong and Mike Harris were absent from the meeting. Council approved the consent agenda items and then moved on to the Utilities Supervisor report by Dave Houghtelling. Mayor Gunderson opened the sealed bids for the digger truck. A motion was made to accept the winning bid went of $16,550 to Brophy Electric. Houghtelling reported they are still working out some minor issues at the swimming pool. He also said the siren crew showed up. It had been since 2016 since they had been out. The crew replaced batteries, and worked on issues on other sirens.
Sure hope your air conditioner has been working! And that it keeps on working, as it sounds like you’re going to need it for a while. Someone told me on Monday that for the next 13 days we are in for 100+ temps. Hope their weatherman is wrong. And! Here on The Hill, we’ve had very little rain. In the last couple of days, I’ve had occasion to drive down roads I don’t generally travel and saw some pretty sick looking corn. Some of it was past blue, it was white. If it stays so hot with no moisture, it’s all going to look sick. Polish those prayer bones.
Delbert Allan Blake, age 83, a longtime resident of McCook, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 7, 2022 in Wauneta, Nebraska. Delbert was born November 7, 1938 to Claude and Marjorie (Callan) Blake in Ogallala, Nebraska. He was raised in the Bartley area and attended school with the class of 1956.
David L. West, age 77, of Elwood, Nebraska, passed away on July 9th, 2022, at the Kearney Regional Hospital, Kearney, Nebraska. He was born November 28th, 1944, to Clyde & Louise (Coker) West, Los Angeles, California.
