ARAPAHOE - The Arapahoe and Hi-Line volleyball teams battled to the end, but it was the Warriors that made plays it needed at the end of sets in a 25-19, 25-22, 25-23 victory. The Bulls dug an early hole in the first and couldn’t finish the rally in losing by six, but had leads late in the second and third sets, only to see the Warriors close them out. Cici Lerdall paced the Bulls with 10 kills while Carley Thompson added seven and Zoey Evans finished with six. Jaci Muegerl had five kills and Malia Viter had three. The Bulls hit .113 for the match.

Southern Valley drops contest at Sandy Creek

SANDY CREEK - The Southern Valley football team traveled to Sandy Creek Friday and dropped a 74-30 decision to the Cougars. The eagles were able to move the ball and score at times, but had few answers for the Cougars’ ground attack as Sandy Creek rushed for 305 yards and finished with 411 yards of offense.

About 15 members of the Catholic and Lutheran churches of Cambridge and Arapahoe joined the National Life Chain Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Highways 6/34 and 283 in Arapahoe, NE. Millions of Americans throughout the U.S. stood on highways for one hour on Sunday in peaceful and prayerful witness to their commitment to the sanctity of all human life and an abortion-free society. This was the 35th Annual National Life Chain in America.

Give Blood on October 17 in Elwood to help trauma patients

Donated blood is a lifesaving gift most healthy people can give. The community is encouraged to donate blood on Oct. 17, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, to help those who have been seriously injured and need blood products to help them recover. It’s the blood already on the shelves that helps save lives.

Dick Turpin Outdoor Education Memorial Fund

Legendary Nebraska outdoorsman Dick Turpin loved connecting people to the outdoors. Since his passing earlier this year, his family, along with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, have established a way to keep that spirit going. The Dick Turpin Outdoor Education Memorial Fund has been created to support hunter education and outdoor education programs across Nebraska. Its goal is to inspire a love for the outdoors and time-honored traditions.

Public asked to report dead, sick big game

Nebraska wildlife officials say conditions throughout much of the state are suitable for the spread of deadly viral diseases among big game populations. They are asking the public to report unexplained death or illnesses of deer, pronghorn, elk and bighorn sheep.

Cambridge Senior Center opens discussion about its future at Council meeting

Cambridge City Council met in regular session on Monday, October 3, 2022. All council members were present. Council began the meeting by approving the Consent Agenda Items, then approving the Library Board Minutes from the September 22, 2022 meeting. Council then approved the appointments of Austin Reisig, George Sund, Lisa Dutt, Jaime Weiss, and Jodi tenBensel to the Board.

Oxford Thrift Store benefits community

The Oxford Thrift Store in downtown Oxford is a thriving business that not only offers gently used items for the public to make use of, but it also uses the proceeds from these sales to help organizations and groups in Oxford and the surrounding communities. These items are donated by people in the area and range from clothing items for all ages to furniture and everything in between. A group of volunteers is in charge of sorting and pricing these items. Another group works the store front and sells the items. There are 64 volunteers who generously donate their time and efforts.
