Members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Cambridge, gathered Sunday, September 17th to sort and sack up clothing, shoes, linens, bedding and more from the Tri Valley Health Service Auxiliary Thrift Store in Cambridge. The items were picked up by Orphan Grain Train, Grand Island, to be sent to help with disasters here in the United States and countries requesting aid. The Mission Service event closed with a Subway sub, chips, drink and desserts.

Cambridge Unit 199 of the American Legion Auxiliary met in regular session at the Community Building at 2:07 p.m. with 8 members present. After Presentation of the Colors, Pledge of Allegiance, Prayer and Preamble, President Witte called the meeting to order. The minutes of the August meeting were read.

Lebanon to celebrate 150 years

Lebanon, Nebraska, is celebrating its 150th Anniversary this Saturday, September 23. The anniversary celebration starts at 11 am with vendors and a farmers market in the park. Everyone is free and welcome to set up in the park. The Legion Auxiliary will also be hosting a lunch in the Legion Hall. There will also be Black Smithing and Bucket Making displays to show how people lived in the “olden day”. Cornhole, a horse shoe throw, and a basketball contest will also start at 11 am.

Cambridge to bring back Old Fashioned Saturday Night

Cambridge’s Old Fashioned Saturday Night celebration takes place this Saturday, September 23. As a part of the local Main Street Revival movement, the event celebrates the town’s history and transition from Pickleville to Cambridge. The festivities will start at 5 pm with live music and shopping in Downtown Cambridge, along with Old Fashioned Photography at Cribelli’s Physical Therapy.

Teammates, a mentoring program founded by former Nebraska Football Coach Tom Osborne, is thriving in southwest Nebraska. Southern Regional Coordinator Lisa Dutt said the program has become very popular in many area schools, but that is leading to one small issue.

SOUTHERN VALLEY - Behind a record-breaking performamce from senior running back Kody Collins, the Southern Valley football team opened its home slate by running all over the visting Maxwell Wildcats, 66-48, Thursday night.
Southern Valley’s Kody Collins rushed for 331 yards and six touchdowns Thursday against Maxwell.
