Roger Olmsted, formerly of Beaver City and Phillipsburg, passed away December 24 at the age of 71. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 29 at 10:30 a.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Funeral Chapel (1115 Second Street) in Phillipsburg.

December 26, 2023 We got our white Christmas! It did put a crimp in some travel plans. But it didn’t stop the reason for the season – to celebrate the birth of Jesus! Most churches reported having a big turn out for their Christmas Eve services.

Many respiratory illnesses go around in the fall and winter in southwest Nebraska. During the month of November, cases of RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) and COVID-19 spiked, with an average of 30 to 60 cases of COVID per week reported to Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD). Flu (influenza) rates were still low. Colds, flu, RSV, and COVID-19 can all have similar symptoms so it can be very challenging to know when it is serious or when to get medical care. For those more at risk of getting very sick, it is important to get tested so the right treatments can be given.

The holiday season begins with Thanksgiving, and many people believe that the festivities come to a close after ringing in the new year. In fact, for the faithful, the Christmas season does not end until January 6 (January 12 in Eastern churches).

The Arapahoe-Holbrook 7-12 Christmas Concert was held on Monday, December 18th at 7:30 pm. The JH and High School band and chorus groups performed for a large audience in the north gym.

Time is a unique resource. While all people have the same amount of time, humans can’t save it for tomorrow… can’t borrow today what was left over yesterday…. can’t lend it to someone else….can’t leave it behind, and can’t take it with us. We can do only two things with time: use it now or lose it forever!
