BEAVER CITY – The city council met for a little over an hour on December 4, 2023, and acted on two items. The council approved an annual incentive bonus for full-time and part-time employees and approved a building permit submitted by Jamie Hargett for a shed and pouring concrete.

Tuesday’s highspeed chase results in arrest of Norton man

A high-speed chase through Furnas and Gosper counties ended in Elwood and a 26-year-old Norton man was arrested for the dangerous disturbance Tuesday. The Furnas County Sheriff Doug Brown said that on Tuesday afternoon at 4:24 p.m., Furnas County Dispatch received a report of a 2014 Chevy Traverse, northbound at a high rate of speed on Hwy 283 following a disturbance in Norton.

Lions food and toy drive

Annually, the Cambridge Lions Club leads a food and toy drive for those members of our community who are in need. The effort reaches over 60 households to nine different communities in our area. This project is possible through the generous donations of many individuals, organizations, churches, and groups. This year the Lions Club again are asking for your financial support. New toys are also needed. Gifts for teenagers are especially needed. Please help them to make this year’s project a success. The Press set to open in Elwood

ELWOOD - A new breakfast and lunch cafe and coffee shop, The Press, will be opening this week in Elwood. For owners Jay and Susie Edwards, it’s been the product of a lot of work and overcoming obstacles, but also an opportunity to give something to a community the couple has grown to love since moving to Elwood during the pandemic in 2020.

By Guyla Mills ELWOOD – Supt. Daren Hatch was one of two Nebraska school superintendents who participated in a press conference hosted by Governor Pillen at the Capitol on Monday, December 4. The purpose was to applaud school districts like Elwood and Norris that reduced property taxes following the passage of LB 583 that established the Education Future Fund this past session.
