County Fairs are over and now is the time for 4-H School Enrichment. Nebraska 4-H school enrichment programs are learning experiences delivered to youth in cooperation with public or private school during school hours in support of school curriculum.

National 4-H week is here! Help us celebrate 4-H and the 2024 theme Beyond Ready by highlighting Furnas County events to enable youth to participate to be ready now and for their future selves. Looking for more ways to help celebrate 4-H? High school esports in small-town southwest nebraska

Overwatch, League of Legends, Smash Ultimate, and online chess in the first semester. In the spring season, students will have the option to compete in Valorant, Mario Kart, Rocket League, and Fortnite. There is a state tournament at the end of each season/semester.

Farnam receives six trees for Street tree project

Thanks to the Ten Free Trees program, an effort of the Nebraska Forest Service and the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum, Farnam received 6 trees for the Street Tree project. Despite providing a wide range of social, economic, and environmental benefits, most Nebraska community forests have been in steady and sometimes dramatic decline.

A handful of local schools, including Maywood, Elwood, and Eustis, have stepped into the modern age of competition by adding esports to their school-sponsored activities. Esports are, essentially, competitive video games.

Southern Valley named Blue Ribbon school

The U.S. Department of Education recognized 356 schools as the 2024 cohort of the National Blue Ribbon Schools, including four schools in Nebraska, one of which is Oxford – Southern Valley Elementary School, Southern Valley Public Schools. This prestigious recognition highlights schools that excel in academic performance or make significant strides in closing achievement gaps among different student groups.
