Have you ever wished you could step through that old farmhouse door and visit your grandmother’s kitchen? Out at the Buffalo Bill Ranch (built in 1886), the Maywood Country Gardners took on the challenge of decorating the historic kitchen on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. Keeping the old customs in mind, the fifteen member club gathered items from the prairie to add a festive holiday touch to warm up the kitchen, right down to pie crust rolled out for cookie and pie making. Tall grasses, dried flowers, pinecones and cedar boughs cover every window sill and table top. The tree is decorated with dried orange slices, strings of popcorn, wildflowers tied in red ribbon, feathers, bird nests, hand crocheted ornaments, and old cookie cutters which are nestled in tree branches. Each room of the mansion on the prairie is decorated by different clubs and organizations. So come on in, sip some apple cider, and step back in time this Christmas.

Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) will be offering Vaccines for Children at public clinics in December. Anyone two months of age and older are invited to get their vaccinations. Flu shots will still be available for anyone 6 months of age and older. Getting a flu shot now will provide protection for the rest of the flu season.

Elaine M. Haussler, age 93, formerly of Arapahoe and Holbrook, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024 in White Stone, Virginia. She was born on June 20, 1931 to Jake and Mathe Fritz, the first of 4 children. She grew up 8 miles southwest of McCook, Nebraska.
