Warmer weather has arrived and with it comes ticks. Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) would like to remind everyone to stay safe from tick bites that can spread disease to humans.

It has been the privilege of my life to have spent the last five years in Curtis, Nebraska. My time here comes to an end on May 30, and my wife and I will miss the friends we have made, not only in Curtis but across the state.

CHADRON, Neb. (May 19, 2025) – Chadron State College has announced the names of students who qualified for the President’s List for the Spring 2025 semester. To be eligible, students must have completed at least 12 credit hours of coursework, be pursuing their first bachelor’s degree, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 4.0, and have no incomplete grades.

Food Bank for the Heartland offers semiannual grant opportunities to our partner agencies. These funds are intended to assist our partners in serving neighbors more effectively or increasing their capacity. Partners can apply for anything from shelving to carts, freezers, etc. On Friday, May 16th, 2025, Oxford Community Pantry accepted a check from Food Bank for the Heartland for $150. LINCOLN, Neb. (May 20, 2025) - Nebraska Wesleyan University conferred degrees to nearly 400 students during its commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 10.

SEWARD, NE (05/22/2025)-- Concordia University, Nebraska recently named 241 students to its honors list for the spring 2025 semester. Students who earn a 3.90 GPA or higher while also completing at least 12 credit hours during the semester qualify for this list.

May 22, 2025 (McCook, Neb.) — Weather permitting, roadway paint striping work will begin May 27 in District 7, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Contractor Services, Inc., of North Platte, is the contractor for this project.

Due to a break down someplace along the line, my news column from last week didn’t make it to print. So, this week’s column will incorporate old news and new news.

The Cambridge Memorial Hospital Auxiliary met May 20, 2025 in the Tri Valley Health System Republican River Room with lunch provided by TVHS Volunteer Services. President Diane Schultz presided over the meeting with eleven members and CEO Clay Jordan answering roll call. Minutes of the March, 2025 meeting were read and approved, followed by reports from the treasurer, president, Thrift Shop Cochairman, Foundation Director Jill Goodwin and CEO Clay Jordan.
