Every year on the First Thursday of May, the President of the United States and the Governor of Nebraska issue a proclamation and continue this practice, where millions of Americans join in prayer for their Country, State, and community.

Track teams conclude regular season at Alma

ALMA - A number of area track and field teams wrapped up the regular season at the Dale Harsin Invite in Alma Thursday. The Cambridge girls captured the team title while Southern Valley, Southwest, Arapahoe and Hi-Line finished in the top six.
While it was important for athletes to get a final competition in before this week’s district meet, there was also time for fun - like the Southern Valley weight relay using a cell phone as a baton.

Area teams compete at Cattle Trail Tourney in Curtis

Area golf teams began the final week of the regular season with the Cattle Trail Tournament in Curtis Tuesday. Cambridge led area teams with a third-place finish and a score of 350, followed by Southwest (364), Hi-Line (384), Arapahoe (404), Maywood/ Hayes Center (406) and Medicine Valley (431).
Maywood/Hayes Center’s Oliver Anders chips in for birdie on the par 3 sixth at Curtis Tuesday.

Nancy L. Laier, dedicated wife, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, and “Santa Lady”, passed away at Meadowlark Pointe on April 29th, 2026. Nancy’s journey began on August 25, 1937 on her parents’ Ernst and Helen (Jordan) Kraye ranch southwest of Mullen, NE.

Dwayne A. Sheldon, 62, of Minden, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Kearney County Health Services in Minden. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Craig Funeral Home in Minden with Rev. William Zwick offi ciating. Private family burial will be held at White Hill Cemetery, north of Minden. There will be no visitation or book signing. Memorials in Dwayne’s honor are kindly suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the care of Craig Funeral Home in Minden.
