George Dean Thompson was born Sept 28, 1947 at McCook to Leo Dean and Doris (Carpender) Thompson. He grew up on the family farm just south of Stockville near the Spring and Medicine Creeks.

Arielle Lemos, age 40, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Cambridge, Nebraska. She was born on September 19, 1985 to Rauel and Karen (Harrison) Lemos.

Alyce Mae (Carmichael) Stritt, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Kinship Point in McCook, NE. She was a beautiful 104 years old.

COLUMBUS - Southwest senior Houston Billeter fired a two-day total of 157 to tie for seventh and earn his secondconsecutive State medal to lead local players at the Class D State Tournament in Columbus last week. Billeter shots rounds of 78 and 79 to finish in a threeway tie for the seventh-place medal.

Through close collaboration with state and federal partners, the Republican Basin Planning Group successfully delivered water to meet Nebraska’s 2025 Republican River Compact obligations while significantly reducing the impact on surface water users. The water was delivered to the Kansas Account in Harlan County Lake ahead of the June 1, 2026 deadline.
