The First Dollar was presented to Brian Rae at his new business. Elwood Auto Sales, following the Elwood Chamber meeting held at the Senior Center on Thursday. Located in the northeast corner of the four-stop signs in downtown Elwood.

The Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District will once again provide eaglewatching opportunities to the public this winter. Central’s eagle-viewing facilities at the Johnson No. 2 (J-2) hydroelectric plant near Lexington will be open on Friday, December 23 and Saturday, December 24 and on Friday, December 30 and Saturday, December 31.

Re-organization of the Village Board members and village employees are: Rolland Cooksley, care home and personnel; Dave Wade, street and solid waste; Ray Meyer, street, water and sewer; Steve Koenig, West Central Development District; and Mindy Mak, community improvement and park and recreation; Stan Schutz, utilities superintendent; Winona Robb, village clerk/treasurer; and Todd Wilson, Village attorney.

Matt Tilson greets his grandmother Ruth Tilson, before the LYF serenade the residents with the Christmas carols. The youth of Our Redeemer Lutheran sang many songs for residents.

Members of the Fifth and Sixth Grade Band are: Fifth grade-Trevor Anderson, Jessica Berens, Jackie Brewer, Cary Clark, Ben Clouse, Jessica Gillming, Jeremy Glassgow, Chadd Hambridge, Davina Leezer, Johan Marquardt, Brenna Nelson, Nick Remmenga, Drew Taft, Davina Wulf, Brad Downing, Josh Hagan, and Sarah Langenberg. Sixth grade-Jedd Dickman, josh Gillming, Jodi Glassgow, Nick Niemeier, D. J. O’Donnell, Lori Schutz, Shawn Schutz, Aimee’ Scoville, Kasey Smith, and Shane Tilson.

Winners of the coloring contest received five dollars in script money from the Elwood Chamber of Commerce while second place winners received three dollars in script money were: Preschool-Sydney Sage, Katelin Buell; Kindergarten through First grade-Jason Schutz, Lindsay Monter; Second, Third, and Fourth grade-Trevor Scoville, Gwen Rhinehart; Fifth and Sixth grade-Shane Tilson and Shawn Schutz.

The Board of Education Lands and Funds held a Gosper County school land lease sale December 16 th in the courtroom. C.K. and Dan Mousel and Doris Moncrief got their leases back without having to pay any bonus bid, as no one bid against them. Leon Dickmeyer got his lease back for a bonus bid of $5,400. Rodney Schroeder to his back for a bonus bid of $23,700, and Irene Weissert got hers back for a bonus bid of $3,400.

Jolly Old Saint Nick arrived in Elwood on Saturday, December 19, via fire truck with an escort of volunteer firemen bearing 200 sacks of candy.

50 years ago

Wayne Hilker of Arapahoe bought the Elwood Barber Shop Friday from Mrs. F. M. Banister. Wayne has just been discharged from the Navy and is an experienced barber. He plans to open the shop after the first of the year.

Soon to be erected on highway entrances to Elwood will these signs built and painted by the Elwood high FFA shop. Displaying the sign are Lynn Barnes and Bill Willets.
