Elwood Village Board approves funds for Veteran’s Memorial
The Elwood Village Board met Wednesday, December 9, 2020 via Zoom. Chairman Tom Martin called the 7 p.m. meeting to order.
Village Clerk, Laurie Jauken, administered the oath of office to newly elected officials Chuck Tilson and Brenna Fong. Tom Martin was elected as Board Chair. Chuck Tilson will fill the place as Vice-Chair.
Katie Weissert with the Community Redevelopment Authority shared that residents would like to have a Veterans Memorial in Elwood. Weissert said that Palmer Monument in Broken Bow has crafted several in the area. After scouting several loca-tions the north side of the courthouse looks to be the best location for a memorial. The board approved for the CRA to use allocated funds for the Veterans Memorial.
Weissert reported there are only two lots left for purchase in the Wheatfield Development Project. Three more lots have been spoken for on Rush Street.
Utility Superintendent, Kirk Corder, reported the water valves have all been exercised. The new concession stand should be delivered the first of the year.
Ron Scharf has volunteered to repair a brick column that is broken between the senior center and the village office. The board approved for Scharf to do this repair.
Several residents voiced their concern about the possible $3 per month charge for the roll-off dumpster at the dump. Residents shared the cost seemed to be too high, especially for people that may never even use the dumpster. There was also some concern as to the availability of the dumpster. The dumpster will only be available during hours the dump is open. Residents shared they thought it should be available more often. Utility Superintendent, Kirk Corder, shared the reason the dumpster is only available during the hours the dump is open is so that residents don’t throw away items that are not permitted as well as leaving trash around the dumpster if it is full. After a great deal of discussion the board voted to charge $1.50 per month to everyone that receives a solid waste bill.
The board reviewed several bids for mowing and snow removal. The board approved Kurt Banshaf s bid for mowing and Elk-O-Inc’s bid for snow removal.
Village Clerk, Laurie Jaunken, shared a request for obtaining a credit card for the library to use. It is very difficult to track purchases or fraudulent activity on a debit card. The board approved obtaining a credit card.
After a great deal of discussion the board approved a final draft of a flow chart for the commercial business water and sewer rates. The final categories and rates have yet to be determined.
With nothing further to discuss the meeting was adjourned at 9:oo p.m. The next meeting for the Elwood Village Board will be Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 7 p.m.
