ESU #11 Hires New Administrator

The Educational Service Unit #11 Board of Education has hired Mr. John Poppert to be their next administrator. He will replace Greg Barnes who is retiring June 30, 2022. Mr. Poppert will officially begin his duties at the ESU on July 1, 2022.

Mr. Poppert is currently the Superintendent at St. Paul Public Schools in St. Paul, Nebraska, a position he has held for 11 years. Prior to his time in St. Paul, Mr. Poppert served as Principal/AD, and then Superintendent at Giltner Public School, and prior to that as Principal/AD for Exeter-Milligan Public Schools from 2001-2006.

With over 20 years of experience in school administration, the ESU 11 Board of Education and staff are excited to work with Mr. Poppert toward their mission to provide visionary leadership and quality services that support excellence in education for ESU 11 schools. Mr. Poppert and his wife Mari Lyn have been married for 27 years. Mari Lyn is a graduate of Cambridge High School while John graduated from Grand Island Senior High. Mr. Poppert’s parents are from the Holdrege and Bertrand area. John and Mari Lyn have two daughters. Brooke is a junior at UNL studying accounting and Olivia will graduate from St. Paul High School this year and is planning to go to college to be a special education teacher.
