Furnas County Clerk issues statement on reported investigation

Furnas County Clerk Kennis McClelland issued the following statement to the Valley Voice, regarding a reported investigation into the disposal of some election envelopes from the primary election in May.

“This is my response to the recent “story,” which originated from KRVN, that reflected negatively on me and the Primary Election.

Our office received 1,182 requests for early voter ballots in the Primary. All of us worked diligently to process those and get them to the voters. Upon receiving them by mail or hand-delivered, they were secured in the vault until Election Day. Each envelope was emptied and all ballots counted.

The ballots remained secured by us -- and still are. We have written documentation showing date of request, date mailed out, and date returned, for every early voter.

We received 775 early voter requests for the General. All were received and secured in the vault and opened for counting on Election Day. They remain secured today.

Any attempt to discredit these statements has absolutely no merit.”
