An important page was added to the annals of Beaver City history during the regular meeting of the Volunteer Fire Department on Wednesday evening, December 2, 2020.

Since its inception in 1908, the roster of the Beaver City Fire Department has consisted of all male volunteers. This changed as the membership applications of Rebecca McClain and Meghan Soderlund were considered and unanimously approved by members of the department at their December 2 meeting.

Rebecca McClain will join her father, Rex McClain; brother, Schyler McClain; and grandfather, Ron McClain, in what is believed to be the first three-generation family to serve on the local fire department.

Also accepted into membership at the Wednesday meeting was Ken Soderlund, who had been a former volunteer with the Beaver City department. He will join his wife, Meghan, as the first-ever husband and wife team on the crew.

In a manner appropriate for the occasion, the recent donation of a remote-controlled Go-Light spotlight to the department by Ron and Janet McClain, R&J McClain Farms, was acknowledged.
