Coal miners in the Colorado area are on strike and the military has been invoked.

Highway men were searching for DLD signs that had been placed along the highway but which magically disappeared.

Richard Blincow and sons are moving the building off the Perry farm, which they purchased. The big barn walked across the field behind a tractor, making a valuable addition to Clyde’s farm outbuildings.

The electrical plant at O’Neill is burning corn. It cost $1.19 to ship a couple of window sashes from Omaha. Henry Ford reduced freight rates on a railroad he operated, but the interstate commerce commission denied him the right to reduce rates.

F.E. Gates traded a quarter section of land in Rawlins County, Kansas for the South Garage in Stamford. It was owned by John VonHollen of Orleans.

Arapahoe defeated the Oxford Cardinals, 49-48. Players on the Oxford team are Roger Rankin, Jerry Pierce, Lloyd Bowers, Theron Luke, Max McLaughlin and Jim Wilson.

December 14, 1961

A heavy snowfall dropped an estimated 10 inches of snow on the Oxford area over the weekend. Along with the snow, temperatures dropped to a cold 3 degrees below zero.

The T.N.T. Club had a farewell party for Ed Vapot and family who are moving to California.

Louis Jansma had a close call when his car skidded on the ice near Riverton and ended up in a 12-foot ditch, but luckily he was not hurt, nor was the car damaged.

Fred Martin of Oxford was the honored guest at the meeting of the Oxford Rotary Club. Martin was presented the Rotary’s “Service Above Self-Service Award”.

December 19, 1991

Four Harlan County men and another from Furnas County were thanked by the Nebraska Cooperative Extension Service for their cooperation in a 10-year test plot program where Cron Lethal Necrosis was studied. Honored for their work were Tony Anderson, John Ulrichson, Alma; Craig Bose and Lee Bose, Orleans and Noel Mues of Arapahoe.

Bill Podraza, Lexington City Manager was the guest speaker at the Oxford Rotary Club who told the group “businesses have to work together to survive”.

Work has just been completed at the Mitchell-Nelson Funeral Home with new vinyl siding, new insulated windows and new canvas awnings with the name Mitchell-Nelson installed.
