RICHARD E. DIETZ
A memorial service for Richard E. Dietz will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Kenton Birtell officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Nebraska.
Richard Eugene Dietz, 83 years of age, of Atlanta, Nebraska formerly of Oxford, passed away, on July 9, 2024, at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Richard was born on the farm southwest of Orleans, on January 1, 1941, the third of five children, born to William “Bill” and Maxine (Batt) Dietz. He received his education from Mascot Public School.
On November 15, 1958, Richard was united in marriage to Alice May Noltensmeier at St. Matthews Lutheran Church north of Arapahoe, and to this union, six children were born: Loretta, Brenda, Marcheen, Rosa, Donna, and Kevin. Richard worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Burlington Northern Railroad from 1960 to 1982. He then started working maintenance at the low-income housing. Richard made a career out of his hobby and started a lawn service company and worked hard mowing lawns up until his passing.
Richard would tell his family to always stay busy to stay out of trouble and he lived by that. He loved to be outside fishing and hunting. Richard was interested in new electronics and liked to have the newest technology, especially in his vehicle. He was a problem solver and would take the time to teach you something new.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and fatherin-law, Simon and Minna Noltensmeier; two brothers: Norman Dietz; and Larry Dietz; two brothers-in-law: Richard Noltensmeier; and Clarence Noltensmeier.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alice Dietz of Atlanta; six children: Loretta Florance and her husband, Eddie of Texarkana, Arkansas; Brenda Breinig and her husband, Allen of Nashville, Tennessee; Marcheen Churchill and her husband, Ryan of Williston, North Dakota; Rosa Wilson and her husband, Reed of Loomis, Nebraska; Donna Zeadow of Hastings, Nebraska; Kevin Dietz of Atlanta; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and one greatgreat- grandchild on the way; two sisters: Judy Journey; Janice Johnson; two sistersin- law, Sharon Ludeke; and Ortha Noltensmeier; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
There will be no visitation or memorial book signing.
The family is honoring Richard’s wish for cremation.
Memorials in Richard’s honor are suggested to the family for later designation.
