Michael Gordon Monie, age 75, of Kearney, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 26, 2026. He was born on September 24, 1950, in Smith Center, Kansas, to Gordon and Geraldine (Yelken) Monie.

He attended and graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1969. On January 17, 1970, Mike married Deanna Wolzen. To this union, four children were born.

Mike began his career with Ag Producers in the Arapahoe area. He later worked for ATC Communications until his retirement, and then he moved to Kearney.

Mike was deeply dedicated to serving his community. He was a member of the Arapahoe Fire Department for 40 years, serving as Fire Chief for several of those years. He was always quick to answer the call when the pager sounded.

He also served on various boards and organizations, including Central Nebraska Volunteer Firefighter’s Association, Tri-Valley Mutual Aide, Young Farmers, Furnas County Sheriff’s Posse, Arapahoe Police Department, and Izaak Walton League.

An avid outdoorsman, Mike enjoyed sharing his passion with others. He served as a Hunter Education Instructor, helping educate future generations. He especially cherished deer and coyote hunts with his sons and fishing trips to the lake throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Deanna; his parents, Gordon and Geraldine; his father-in-law, Dean Wolzen; his brother-in-law, Jerry Wendland; and his niece, Darcy Wendland.

Mike is survived by his sons: Rob Monie, Chad Monie, Grant and wife Sandy Monie, Daughter Shantel and husband DJ Schmit.

Grandchildren: Ty Monie and fiancé Ashtyn Gunderson, Josh Monie, Anna Monie, Gavin Monie, Noah Schmit and Leah Schmit.

He is also survived by his siblings: Sheila Wendland; Pam Pfeiff er and her husband, Larry; Cindy Young and her husband, Dave; and Todd Monie and his wife, LeAndra; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 30, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Garey Funeral Home, 652 Main St., Arapahoe. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe with Rev. James Moshier, officiating. Burial followed at the Arapahoe Cemetery.
