Ilene Laverne (Johnson) Tegtman, 87 years of age, of Stamford, passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2021, at the Beaver City Manor in Beaver City, Nebraska. Ilene was born on February 24, 1934, on the family farm south of Orleans, NE, the eldest of four children, born to George E. and Frances Leora (Russell) Johnson. Ilene received her primary education at a country school through the 8th grade and then attended Stamford High School, graduating with the class of 1951.
On her 18th birthday, she became engaged to Raymond John Tegtman and they were married on March 9, 1952, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford. The first two years of marriage, they lived in Oceanside, CA, where Raymond served a tour of duty in the Marine Corps. Ilene worked at the Social Services office and then at Camp Pendleton in the Civil Service Office. After Raymond’s discharge in 1954, the couple made their home on a farm near Hollinger, NE and God blessed them with two children: Dennis and Raylene. Ilene worked for a short time at the Treasurer’s Office in Furnas County and then was employed at the Stamford Bank for over 10 years. In 1970, the couple purchased a farm southwest of Stamford and in 1990, the couple moved into Stamford where she resided until her health required her to move to the Beaver City Manor.
Family was very important to Ilene. Up until her health wouldn’t allow, she and Raymond didn’t miss an important family event! Ilene loved to travel. She made trips to the East and West coasts, Germany, Washington D.C., Louisiana, and many more. She was disappointed that poor health kept her from making a trip to Philadelphia for her granddaughter’s graduation.
Ilene was a faithful and active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where she served in many capacities. She sang in the choir, played piano, taught Sunday school and Bible School, provided food for many church events and assisted in making many quilts. She also served on the ELCA Synod Council for six years. The grandkids always looked forward to staying with Grandma and Grandpa to attend Vacation Bible School. Ilene was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers-in-law: Don Tegtman and his wife, Kathy; and Don Noren.
Ilene leaves to celebrate her life; her husband of 69 years, Raymond Tegtman of Stamford; daughter, Raylene Bugbee and her husband, Gene of Phillipsburg, KS; and Dennis Tegtman and his wife, Sheryl of Stamford; five grandchildren: Justin Schriner of Jewell, KS; Courtney Kirschner and her husband, Rodney of Baton Rouge, LA; Amanda Rasmussen and her husband, Travis of Waterloo, NE; Ross Bugbee and his wife, Brandi of Manhattan, KS; and Abby Bugbee and special friend, Alex Williams of Philadelphia, PA; two greatgrandchildren: Everly and Francie Rasmussen; and Baby Rasmussen, arriving in August; two sisters: Rhonda Noren of Alma, NE; and Sandra DeSelms of Spring, TX; one brother: Stanley Johnson and his wife, Sonya of Stamford; along with nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, July 9, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford, with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in Ilene’s honor and kindly suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church or to the Stamford Fire Department.
