A Funerial Service for Shirley B. Englund will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Dr. W. Kirwin Stewart, Jr. and Pastor Murray Jones officiating. Burial rights will be conducted by the Order of the Eastern Star. Interment will follow at the Moses Hill Cemetery in rural Phelps County, Nebraska.

Shirley B. (Beedle) Englund, 84 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away, Saturday morning, August 21, 2021, at the Mount Carmel Home Keens Memorial in Kearney, Nebraska. Shirley was born in Holbrook, Nebraska on January 4, 1937, the fourth of five children, born to Calvin and Dorothy (Breinig) Beedle. She attended and graduated from Arapahoe High School, with the class of 1954.
Following her education, Shirley moved to Holdrege to work at the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator.
On March 9, 1956, Shirley was united in marriage to the love of her life Paul Englund at the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege and to this union three children were born: Denise Kay, David Lee and Durene Rae. The couple made their home in Holdrege. Together they enjoyed traveling including trips to Masonic, Shriner and Eastern Star activities for many years. She was deeply involved in the Eastern Star and held many positions with the organization.
Shirley dedicated her life to being a stay-at-home mom and enjoyed babysitting many children over the years. She will be remembered by all for her love of baking cookies, bread and cinnamon rolls. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of Shirley’s life.
Shirley and Paul have been members of the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege for over 65 years, teaching Sunday School for many of those years, also helped as a custodian, and was a deacon.
Besides her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by, her brothers: Gerald Beedle and his wife, Elaine; and Derald Beedle and his wife, Maxine.
Shirley is survived by her husband, of 65 years, Paul Englund of Kearney; her three children: Denise Long of Holdrege; David Englund and his wife, Paula of Omaha, Nebraska; Durene Anderson/Marchioro and her husband, Thomas of Kearney/Kansas City, Missouri; 10 grandchildren: Matthew Long and his wife, Amanda of Lincoln, Nebraska; Tyler Long of Lincoln; Jared Long and his wife, Tatiana of Holdrege; Christopher Englund and his wife, Jess of Elkhorn, Nebraska; Preston Englund and his wife, Ashley of Hastings; Danielle Axtell and her husband, Erick of Axtell, Nebraska; Michael Anderson of Kearney; Nicholas Anderson of Arlington, Virginia; Joseph Anderson and his wife, Jaimee of Lincoln; Spencer Anderson of Lincoln; 11 great-grandchildren: Tray; Jackson; Barrett; Keaton; Parker; Hudson; Lucy; Rylee; Ella; Lincoln; Bentley; her siblings: Dottie Paulson and her husband, Marvin of Holdrege; Dale Beedle and his wife, Judy of Arapahoe; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Visitation was held on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Shirley’s honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
