Eagles, Roughriders compete at Southwest Invite

BARTLEY - The Southwest wrestling team finished runner-up and the Southern valley Eagles were third at the nine-team Roughrider Invite held Friday afternoon in Bartley.

Southwest had 10 medalists had 10 medalists at the the meet, including Matt Van Pelt, a champion at 152, and Cole Downey, the champion at 195.

The Roughriders, who scored 141 points to finished 3o back of Minden in the team race, also had four finished runner-up, including Garrett Latimer at 138, Tyler Ellis at 145, Clayton Hardy at 220 and Bryson Shoemaker at 285. Brett Tryon took third at 160 as did Trenton Custard at 152, Jacob Kerns at 132 and Mitche Stritt at 113. Carter Van Pelt finished fourth at 120.

Southern Valley had seven medalists on the day, led by Mason Noel, the champion at 145 pounds. Trevor Brown finished runner-up at 152 and Braxton Hammond was second at 106.

Bryson Warner (195) and Gabe Grove (220) each finished third for the Eagles and Carson Grossnicklaus took fourth at 170 pounds and Chet Fisher finished fourth at 132 pounds.

The Eagles finished with 94 team points, tying Franklin for third in the team race.
