Thomas McHale, M.D. graduates from Internal Medicine Residency
Thomas McHale, M.D. (CHS 2008) graduated in June 2021 from the Internal Medicine Residency at Einstein Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, NY. His residency class had the unique experience of serving at “ground zero” during the Covid 19 outbreak of 2020, when Montefiore in the Bronx became a fully Covid hospital, almost doubling its patient capacity. The young doctors experienced an unprecedented testing of their skills, stamina, ingenuity and compassion, under extreme conditions.
In October, McHale passed his Boards in Internal Medicine and is now serving an Infectious Disease Fellowship at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. He also practices at the Minneapolis VA Hospital and Hennepin County Hospital. McHale graduated from UNMC in 2018, where his exposure to the UNMC Infectious Disease Facility and Ebola Response Protocols sparked his interest in infectious disease. McHale also spent a year in the UK at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine where he achieved a Master of Science Degree in Control of Infectious Disease. He is a graduate of UNL with degrees in Microbiology and Biochemistry.
McHale is the 3 rd generation of his family on his mother’s side to practice medicine. A century ago, his great grandfather headed the Pathology Department at the Sisters of Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs and taught at Creighton School of Medicine. His grandfather was Chief of Radiology at Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia and taught at Temple University Medical School.
Thomas McHale is the son of James McHale and Sondra Jonson McHale of Cambridge.
