Cambridge boys fall to Cozad, Loomis
CAMBRIDGE - Second-half explosions have proven costly for the Cambridge boys basketball team last week as the Trojans saw both Cozad and Loomis blow open competitive games that resulted in losses.
Against Cozad, the Trojans battled throughout the first two quarters, hustling for rebounds and knocking down timely shots.
A buzzer-beating three from Zach McArthur brought Cambridge within 23-21 at the half.
But after the break, the Haymakers threw a Haymaker, scoring 25 points in the third and 18 more in the fourth as they raced away for a 66-31 victory.
Cole Fiene delivered 13 points and ii rebounds while McArthur scored nine.
Derek Trompke collected five rebounds and Fiene had five steals and Carson Trompke had two.
Friday at Loomis, Cambridge shot just 26 percent and couldn’t get its offense untracked as it managed just 22 points in a defeat.
Loomis led just 24-12 at the half, but blew the game open with a 23-3 third quarter en route to the 40-point win.
Fiene scored 12 and had nine boards while Trompke added five points. Kyle Borland grabbed six rebounds.
