MARY E. YOUNGQUIST
A memorial service for Mary E. Youngquist will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Orleans, Nebraska with Pastor Dave Irwin officiating. A private inurnment will be held prior to the service at the Stamford Cemetery in Stamford, Nebraska.
Mary Ellen Youngquist, 91 years of age, of Papillion, Nebraska, formerly of Orleans, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2022, at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha. Mary was born on the family farm near Stamford, on January 8, 1931, the second of five children born to Forrest and Lavina (Kauk) Tubridy. Mary graduated from Stamford High School with the class of 1949, and then pursued higher education at Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in September of 1952. Following her education, Mary worked at Alma Memorial Hospital in Alma, Nebraska as an RN.
On Sunday, October 4, 1953, Mary wed her high school sweetheart, Arlo Youngquist at the Christian Church in Alma. This union was blessed with three daughters: Colleen, Rita, and Lynelle. The couple made their home in Harlan County, raising their family at the Tubridy family farm, east of Stamford. Together the family enjoyed traveling, lake life at the Harlan County Reservoir, and winter ski trips to Colorado.
Mary enjoyed reading and studying the Bible and attending a variety of Bible studies. She preferred being outdoors for any reason, but was especially faithful about picking up leaves and digging weeds. She liked to write in the form of journals and letters. She enjoyed hand sewing in a variety of forms. Mary was always up for attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting and school events.
She was a member of the Orleans Presbyterian Church and Orleans American Legion Auxiliary.
Besides her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Colleen; son-in-law, John R. C. Garner, Jr.; one brother, Donald Tubridy; three sisters: Anna Mae Simpson and her husband, Melvin; Elizabeth Scott and her adult children: Stephanie Scott and Kevin Scott; and Eloise Dixon and her husband, Leroy; sister-in-law, Roslie Ann Peterson and her husband, Gordon.
Mary is survived by her children: Rita Garner and Lynelle Youngquist both of Papillion; grandson, DJ Rison and his wife, Elizabeth and their two daughters, Eleanor and Stella Rison of Papillion; granddaughter, Mary Rebecca Rison Gadsden and her husband, Larry Gadsen of Yelm, Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
There will be no visitation or viewing. The family has chosen cremation.
A memorial will be established in Mary’s honor, and the family will determine the beneficiary at a later date.
