VIRGINIA M. RICE
Virginia Mae Rice age 86 formerly of Wilsonville passed away at the Holdrege Memorial Home in Holdrege on October 5, 2022. She was born in Scottsbluff, NE on December 20, 1935, to Everett and Marybelle (Fitts) Hall.
Her mother died a few days after childbirth. Her father Everett, married Elizabeth “Betty” Everett who became Virginia’s mother. She grew up in Scottsbluff graduating Scottsbluff High School in 1954. Virginia attended Doane College for 2 years to pursue a degree in Teaching. It was at Doane College; she fell in love with Kendall Rice. The couple wed on August 5, 1956. Together they made their home in Wilsonville, NE and raised 3 children: Scott, Steve, and Shari. Virginia was active in the Baptist Church serving in many of the Church offices. She was especially remembered for her many years playing the piano for Sunday morning services and many other occasions.
Virginia was a member of the Double Eight Club, the Double H Club (Helping Hands), the Wilsonville Community Improvement Committee. She enjoyed helping others in the community, was also active in cemetery clean-up, community landscaping. She taught and played music for the Bible School. She was an active homemaker, keeping up with her families’ schedules and activities. She extremely was proud of obtaining her private pilot’s license. She was preceded in death by her parents: father; Everett, mothers: Marybelle, and Betty; husband; Kendall; brother: Howard Hall; brother-in-law Warren (Arlene) Rice.
Virginia is survived by her daughter: Shari and husband Bart Anderson of Loomis, NE; 2 sons: Scott Rice of Wilsonville and Steve and wife Peg Rice of Wilsonville; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren: sisters-in-law: Alberta Hall of Iowa; Janice and (Harry) Brown of Omaha; brother-in-law: Lonnie (Pat) Rice of Grand Island. Many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral Services were held Monday, October 10, 2022, at 10:30 AM at the Wilsonville Baptist-Christian Church with Pastor Keith Theobald and Kirk Kasson officiating. Interment was in the Wilsonville Cemetery. Visitation was held a the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge on Sunday, October 9, 2022, from 3:00 PM till 5:00 PM with the family present to greet friends. Memorials may be left to either the Wilsonville Hendly Fire Department or the Wilsonville Baptist- Christian Church.
