Carole J. Watton

Carole Janice (Kubik) Watton was born November 8th, 1939 in Cambridge, Nebraska to Francis and Irene (Witte) Kubik. She passed away on September 26th, 2025, at the age of 85 in her home in Derby, Kansas.

Carole graduated from Cambridge High School in 1957, then moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where she was a typesetter at The Lincoln Journal Star. In 1964, Carole married Ralph O. Watton, Jr. at St.

John’s Catholic Church in Cambridge, Nebraska. The couple then moved to Grand Island, Nebraska. Carole and Ralph were blessed with six children: Ralph III, Bradley, Janelle, Brian, Linda, and Michelle.

Carole was a full-time mother until she and Ralph moved to Derby, Kansas in 1983 when she started working at the Derby School District Bus Barn as a bus driver.

She retired from the Bus Barn in 2016.

Carole was preceded in death by her brother Larry Kubik and her sister Phyllis (brotherin- law, Joe) Langan as well as Ralph Watton Jr.

Carole is survived by all six of her children: Ralph Watton III (Tammy), Bradley Watton, Janelle Watton Naess (Coby), Brian Watton, Linda Watton Cossaart (Jason), Michelle Watton Harper (Bryan), a brother Morris (Cathy) Kubik, a brother Doug (Cindy) Kubik, and sister-in-law Marilyn Kubik along with 13 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral mass will be at St. John’s Catholic Church on October 18th, 2025 at 2:00pm.

Immediately following the funeral, there will be coffee and cookies served in the church hall.
