DONALD R. HIGH
Donald Roy High age 84, of Indianola, NE passed away at the Community Hospital in McCook, NE on July 19, 2023. He was born in McCook, on August 13, 1938 to Roy and Edith (Parsons) High. He attended school in Indianola, graduating from Indianola High School in 1957. He attended Milford Community College for one year.
On August 25, 1959, he was united in marriage to Caron Houghtelling at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Indianola.
Don worked for several years in construction in southwest Nebraska.
Don was later employed by the Bureau of Reclamation as an inspector.
The family moved from Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Arizona, Colorado, and California before retiring and returning to Indianola.
After he retired from the Bureau, Don worked for Miller and Associates for 15 years.
Don enjoyed morning coffee at Ag Valley and the Rocket Inn with the gang. He coached Pop Warner football and baseball, winning several championships.
He served as a Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed golf, fishing, and hunting pheasant, quail, ducks, and small animals. Don was a member of St Catherine’s Catholic Church, and Knights of Columbus. He liked sports especially Nebraska football, Minnesota Vikings in the NFL, and the Kansas City Royals in the American League. Don had an infectious laugh.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy, and Edith; stepfather, Alvy Wing.
Don is survived by his wife of 63 years, Caron, three sons, Montie, wife Elizabeth High of Grand Junction, Co, Kyle and wife Dianna High of Farmington, NM, Anthony (Corina Fritz) of McCook; three grandchildren, Danan High , Kalam High, and Aubrey High; sister, Gwen Sughroue-Davis of Kearney The family chose cremation. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 10:00 AM with Father Michael Houlihan officiating.
Rosary was recited on Friday July 21, 2023, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Indianola at 7:00 PM. Inurnment was in the St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery in Indianola. Memorials may be left in Don’s name at the Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel.
