Donna F. Wier, age 94, passed away at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook on December 20, 2020. She was born in Furnas County near Cambridge on November 27, 1926 to Orva B. and Josephine (Heitmann) Trosper. Donna was united in marriage to George Wier in Norton, KS on July 6, 1946. George preceded her in death on May 9, 1988.

Donna was a lifelong resident of Cambridge. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge of McCook and the Congregational Church of Cambridge. She enjoyed dancing, going to many dances with her companion, Ernie Purvis. She collected Shirley Temple dolls and enjoyed china and oil painting.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orva and Josephine; husband, George; son, Stanley; siblings: Gary Trosper; Mildred and Roy Farr; Geneva Fuller; Roberta Menges; Fred and Nellie Jean Trosper; brother-in-law, Ray Boyer; sister-in-law, Donna Trosper; and companion for 20 years, Ernie Purvis.

Donna is survived by her daughter-in-law, Kathy (Dale) Long of Holbrook, NE; her four grandchildren: Andy (Melanie) Wier of McCook, NE; Julie Wier of Lincoln, NE; Becky Wier of Cambridge, NE; and Marie (Mike) Troyer of Milford, NE; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; Siblings: Wren (Luella) Trosper of Arapahoe; Ardis Lorimer of McCook; Joyce Boyer of Smith Center, KS; and Dixie (Swede) Swanson of Curtis, NE.

Visitation for Donna was held at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at moo AM with Bill Weaver officiating at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary. Interment was held in the Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge. Memorials may be left to the Cambridge Rescue Squad. Friends may leave on-line condolences at lockenourfh. com. Lockenour-Jones Mortuary is entrusted with arrangements.

Curtis Council moves forward on $3.9 million pool project

The Curtis City Council granted permission to begin fundraising for a new pool. After multiple meetings, including two public input meetings, the Curtis pool committee requested that the city council approve moving forward with option 5, an estimated $3.9 million investment.
