Dorothy F. Tyler
Dorothy Faye (Wolfe) Tyler was born on June 14th, 1930 to Byron and Etta Wolfe in their Holbrook, NE home. She attended various country schools in the Holbrook, Cambridge, and Wilsonville areas, quitting school in the 10th grade to work in the Wilsonville Café to help support the family. She bought their first Christmas tree (a small one since space was limited (too!)
- eleven people living in a five room house – (no bathroom!) Yes! We were a close family in more ways than one!)
A friend was thinking of buying a home, and wanted one with five bedrooms so “each child would have their own room.” My husband replied, “That’s pretty important! We had our own rooms! The boys had one and the girls had one!” (There was 4 boys and 1 girl!)
Dorothy saw to it that each family member had a gift under (around?) the aforementioned tree.
She married Doyle Sonday and it was a sad day when in 1951 they and daughter, Sandra Lynn moved to Salem, OR! Dorothy and Doyle divorced in 1961.
On October 31, 1963 she married Richard Tyler whom preceded her in death on August 4, 2001, after suffering a stroke.
Dorothy was employed by Mead Products in Salem for 32 years, retiring in 1992.
In October, 1993 she was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rheumatica (allergic to own normal tissues in her case: Muscles and arteries). (More pills) but! She didn’t let it slow her down, she was an ambitious individual!) In October, 2015 she sold her home in Salem and eventually bought a home in Junction City, OR, a few miles from Sandy, Monroe, OR.
Dorothy thoroughly enjoyed camping outings (lasting a few days) with Sandy and her daughter. She was fun, loving and enjoyed ‘story’ time!
Sandy made arrangements for Dorothy to attend the Byron Wolfe family reunion in Cambridge in June 2020.
She made it a point to spend a few days with each sibling commenting it would probably be her last trip to Nebraska sadly she was right!
She loved working in the yard and, in so doing in September - fell!
After getting her injuries patched up at the local clinic (via Sandy’s ‘tag’ service). The next day, same scenario. Working in her yard. . .fell again!
After getting her injuries taken care of spent her remaining life in various care homes in so much pain she begged for the comfort of death! Her wish was granted, along with her request for cremation-no funeral service. . . and her ashes strewn in a flower garden bordering the ocean.
(She had on intention of having her ashes thrown in the ocean where husband, Dick’s ashes are - saying “I’m afraid of the water!)
Other than her daughter and husband, Sandra and Jerry Frye, those loving (and missing) Dorothy include: grandchildren, Wayne, Tracy, Michelle, Talon, greatgrands, Britney, Erwin, Wayne, Autumn, Ashlee, David, Janessa, Shaelynn, Stephen, Richard, Cainen, Talon, Holland Kiaunna, Shyann, Richard, Anthony, Alonna and Traiton, Brighton, Legacy, Lilianna, and Haven.
Dorothy’s siblings: Beverly Guthrie, Holbrook; Larry Joe (Barbara) Wolfe, Elwood; Carolyn Orvis, McCook; Connie (Bob) Holiday, Cambridge; Myrna (George) Harren, Arapahoe; Sharon (Jim) Bruning, Minden; and their families.
Those preceding her in death other than her parents, and husband, include her granddaughter, Tina Lynn Frye (stillborn), half-brother, Clement Hart; sister-inlaw Monta (Hart) Powers; Gwendolyn Lineneman (and husband, LeeRoy); brothers-in-law Lewis Guthrie and niece (in-law) Shelly Ervin; grandson-in-law, Terrell Kramer.
So long, dear Sis! Tho’ the void you left will never cease - We’re thankful your suffering is over and you’ve found eternal peace!
We’ll meet again - - with all aches and pains removed. . .
