Janice C. Hughes
Janice Cleo Hughes, age 87, of Naponee, Nebraska passed away Thursday, October 10, 2025 at home while on Hospice. She was born December 28, 1937 in Lincoln, Nebraska to James & Florence (Kane Delanoy) Busselle.
Jan graduated from Fairmont High School in 1956. On February 9, 1957, she married the man of her dreams, Maurice “Morie” J. Hughes.
They were blessed with two children, LesLee and Michael. They made Lincoln their home for 24 years. Jan worked at Wickstrom’s Beauty Supply; was president of the Lincoln Women’s Business Association and also worked for several years as a secretary at Goodyear, but most of her working career was with the Nebraska State Legislature for Senator Richard Marvel until his retirement. She and Morie moved to Naponee in 1981 after Morie’s retirement from the Lincoln Fire Department. She became the clerk for the Village of Naponee for about 40 years and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Morie passed in 1992 and she elected to stay in Naponee, the community they loved and where they had many good friends.
She cared for several of her friends as they were going through health problems and took care of them in their final days. She also became a best friend to many furry friends as she rescued many dogs over the years and gave them a good home and always spoiled them.
Jan enjoyed fishing and hunting with Morie, and playing cards and putting puzzles together with her family. She was always very competitive and made those card games fun and entertaining. She enjoyed gardening and had a love for plants and flowers. Jan faced numerous health challenges throughout her life, beginning the day she was born and being a twin, only weighing 1 lb. 9 oz. She was always strong and independent and overcame her health issues over and over again.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, LesLee & Tracy McGee of Oxford; son and daughter-in-law, Michael & Diane Hughes of Lincoln; granddaughter, Jessica and husband Greg Zoubek, along with great-granddaughters Oliva and Aubrey of Firth; many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends.
Jan was proceeded in death by her husband Morie; grandson Ryan Hughes; son-in-law Leon Robeson; twin brother Jimmy Busselle; sister Joyce Wallace; brotherin- law Harvey Wallace; and brother Richard Delanoy.
Private viewing by family only. Memorial service will be Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 10 AM at Naponee Cemetery, Naponee, Nebraska. Graveside service will follow on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 3 PM at Calvary Cemetery, at Sutton, Nebraska.
