JEAN M. WITTE
Jean M. Witte age 91 of Cambridge passed away at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Sunday, August 8, 2021. She was born near Orafino, NE on October 27, 1929, to Theodore “Ted” and Eunice (Moore) Ohlson. Jean attended and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1947. On August 31, 1949, she was united in marriage to Gerald “Jerry” Witte in Cambridge at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. The couple would have celebrated their 72anniversary at the end of this month. The couple made their home on the farm south of Cambridge.
Jean was an active member of the St. John’s Catholic Church, Altar Society, the Deanery, PCCW Dioceses. She was an excellent seamstress sewing items from Baptismal blankets, baby blankets, leisure suits, bridesmaid dresses and most of her 7 children’s clothing. She was a former member of the Kum-again Club and a 4-H leader. She and Jerry square danced all over in Southwest Nebraska. Jean enjoyed going to watcher her children’s school activities along with her grandchildren activities. She taught her grandchildren and great grandchildren to play solitaire, and Pinochle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Ted and Eunice Ohlson; daughter: Janet Davis; grandchildren: Bryan Miller, C. Ryan Witte, Abby Renea Witte and Shelley Ann Witte and granddaughter-in-law: Jo Evans; numerous in-laws.
Jean is survived by her husband Jerry of Cambridge; 3 daughters: Barbara (Duane) Phillips, Brenda (Mark) Miller, Sharon (Kelly) Evans all of Cambridge; 3 sons: Steven (Connie) Witte, Roger (Nan) both of Cambridge, Mark (Deb) Witte of Colorado Springs, CO; 22 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Joy Feeken of Arapahoe; Reba (Max) Tomlin of Cambridge; Son-in-law: Larry Davis of Lawrence, KS.
Visitation for Jean was held on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM with family present to greet friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Recitation of the Rosary was held August 11, 2021, at 10:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cambridge with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 AM with Father Ken Wehrs officiating.
