JOHN L. BAXTER
John Leslie Baxter, age 76, of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away on Friday, April 1, 2022 at Kearney Regional Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. He was born on June 20, 1945 in Kearney, Nebraska, to Bernhard L. and Phyllis (Mulford) Baxter.
John was raised in multiple states as the family moved to different places. After his schooling, he entered the U.S. Army in August of 1965 and served until May of 1968, while serving in Vietnam. After his discharge, he came back to Nebraska and married Marj Hanson. To this union 2 children were born; Eric and Danielle. They would later divorce. John worked various jobs in the area. He would then marry Vicky Sue Schmidt. Together they would have 4 boys; Jesse, Michael, J.J., and Virgil. They made their home in Arapahoe while John worked for Sands Hog Farm, now known as The Maschhoffs. He would work there many years until he retired.
John was a member of the Edison American Legion and the Sons of American Legion. He enjoyed old classic tractors, helping neighbors and other farmers, fishing and hunting, and family time together.
John was preceded in death by his parents & son Virgil Baxter. He is survived by his wife Vicky of Beaver City, Nebraska, son Eric (Heather) Baxter of Beaver City, Nebraska, daughter Danielle Logan of Kearney, Nebraska, son Jesse (Brandi) Baxter of Grand Island, Nebraska, son Michael (Amanda) Baxter of Holdrege, Nebraska, J.J. (Ashly) Baxter of Kearney, Nebraska, brothers Warren (Marlys) Baxter of Orleans, Nebraska, Steve (Kathy) Baxter of San Antonio, Texas, and Rod (Tiffany) Baxter of Corpus Christ, Texas.
No viewing or visitation as cremation was chosen. Memorial services were held Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 2 PM at Wenburg Funeral Chapel, 652 Main Street, Arapahoe, Nebraska with Pastor George Probasco, offciating. Inurnment was at the Arapahoe Cemetery at Arapahoe, Nebraska. Military rites given by the Edison American Legion and Army-Nebraska National Guard Honor Guard.
