A memorial graveside service for John William Tiedje will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Moses Hill Cemetery in rural Loomis, Nebraska, with Pastor Brad Perry officiating.

John William Tiedje, 74 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at his home in Holdrege. He was born on April 9, 1952, in McCook, Nebraska, the third of four children born to Walter R. and Evelyn M. (Hambidge) Tiedje. He received his education from Arapahoe Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1971. He then pursued higher education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln/ Wesleyan, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. He then furthered his education at Bryan Hospital in Lincoln and received his degree in nursing. While at Bryan, he met the love of his life, Phyllis McElvain.

On May 24, 1975, John and Phyllis were united in marriage in Holdrege, and this union was blessed with three sons: Andrew, Cody, and Brian. John worked as a registered nurse at Bryan and later worked as a forensic behavioral psychologist for the United States Government. The family then moved to Holdrege.

John loved photography, rock hounding, gardening, woodworking, and traveling. He enjoyed spending time in nature, particularly fishing and hunting. John relished spending time with his family and would jump in to help them with their hobbies to spend more time with them.

He was preceded by his parents; his wife, Phyllis, in February of 2025; his in-laws, Robert and Inez (Englund) McElvain; and his brother, Richard Tiedje.

John leaves to celebrate his life; his three sons: Andrew Tiedje and his wife, Kathleen of Plymouth, Nebraska; Cody Tiedje and his wife, Amy of Holdrege; and Brian Tiedje of Columbus, Nebraska; three grandchildren: Evolet Tiedje; Kaylee Tiedje; and Peyton; one greatgranddaughter, Lailah; brother, Larry Tiedje and his wife, Linda of Owings Mills, Maryland; sister, Anita Borman of Indiana; sister-inlaw, Nancy Loeffel and her husband, James of Lincoln, Nebraska; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A visitation was held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege. Following the traditional visitation, cremation will take place.

A memorial has been established in John’s honor and kindly suggested to Moses Hill Evangelical Covenant Church.
