Kathryn Nadine Van Meter, age 88, of Cambridge, Nebraska passed away at the CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney on December 14, 2020. She was born in Sheridan County, Kansas near East Saline, to Willard and Lula (Bunch) Hilburn. Kathryn attended and graduated from Hoxie High School in 1950.

On September 13, 1952 she was united in marriage to Archie Nejdl. To this union three children were born: Sylvia, Erlene and Tim. Archie preceded her in death in August of 1984. The couple made their home near WaKeeney, Kansas where she worked for several years at Pat’s Grocery. She later worked as a custodian for the WaKeeney High School and in the kitchen at Trego Lemke Hospital. Kathryn was active in the Presbyterian Church, teaching Sunday School.

Later she married Dale Van Meter on August 3o, 1990. He preceded her in death. The couple moved to Lyle, Kansas. Kathryn enjoyed all forms of needle work from embroidery and quilting to sewing her children’s clothing and crocheting. She made potholders for all her family; they were so unique that no one wanted to use them. She grew up following her father that played in a band and played violin. She soon enjoyed dancing in all forms. Kathryn loved to garden.

In 2009 at a single dance, she met her companion of 11 years, Lloyd Frandsen. She enjoyed helping Lloyd on the farm south of Cambridge, they would put up tomatoes and corn from their garden. Kathryn loved to be around the kids, grandkids, and extended family. She was active in the Holbrook VFW and the Liberty Star Extension Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Lula; grandson, Joshua Lovin; husbands, Archie and Dale; siblings: Oliver, Clyde, Dean, Wilford, Merle, Charlotte, Gladys, and Hazel; sister-in-law, Marge Hilburn; brothers-in-law, Bus Wilson and Jim Hartman.

Kathryn is survived by two daughters, Sylvia (Jack) Lovin of Wichita, KS; Erlene (Danial) Chavez of San Jose, CA; son, Tim (Jolene) Nejdl of Quinter, KS; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings: Jim Hilburn of Hoxie, KS; Margaret Wilson of Loveland, CO; Keith (Karen) Hilburn of Logan, KS; Clarence (Dana) Hilburn of Kansas City, MO; Grace Hartman of Shawnee Mission, KS; sisters-in-law: Shirley Hilburn of Hill City, KS; Delpha Hilburn of Pueblo, CO: companion of 11 years Lloyd Frandsen of Cambridge.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. (CT), Tuesday afternoon, December 22, 2020 at the Congregational Church in Cambridge with Jim Jones officiating.

Graveside services was held at 2:00 P.M. (CT), Wednesday afternoon, December 23, 2020 at the WaKeeney Cemetery in WaKeeney, Kansas.
