Funeral Services for Loretta Y. Broeker was held on Monday, January 11, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Chaplain Kathy Doiel officiating. Interment will follow at the Oxford Cemetery, at Oxford, Nebraska.
Due to health concerns, regarding the COVID-19 pandemic; current CDC and Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services guidelines for Faith-Based Services and Gatherings were followed. Loretta Yvonne Broeker, 73 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 3, 2021, at her home in Holdrege. Loretta was born on June 17, 1947, at Tecumseh, Michigan, the eldest of five children to George H. and Yvonne Caroline (Rutler) Bunnell. Loretta received her primary education from District #48 rural school in Hitchcock County, Nebraska and then graduated from Oxford High School with the class of 1965. She then pursued higher education in Kearney, Nebraska to attain her LPN license, graduating in 1966.
On January 5, 1969, she was united in marriage to Roger C. Broeker and to this union, they were blessed with four children: Dale, Julia, Nancy, and Teresa. The family made their home in Oxford, Nebraska, where Loretta focused on raising her children and was employed at the Oxford Hospital.
Loretta practiced her passion of nursing, providing loving care to patients in the nursing home setting. Throughout the years, she was employed at Curtis Nursing Home in Curtis, Nebraska, Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege, and Holdrege Memorial Homes.
Loretta was a faithful member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Holdrege, where she served in many capacities. Loretta’s faith was always at the forefront of her life, and she enjoyed the many close friendships made through the church. She was an avid reader, enjoyed going for walks and loved watching movies. But most of all, Loretta’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
Loretta was preceded in death by her father; a grandson, Christian L. Sterling; and a brother-inlaw, Lonnie “Boots” Quinn.
Loretta leaves to celebrate her life; her son, Dale Broeker and his wife, Kimberlee of Elizabethtown, North Carolina; three daughters: Julia Stewart and her husband, Bryon of McCook, Nebraska; Nancy Sterling and her husband, Chad of Stockton, Kansas; and Teresa Kleeb and her husband, Justin of Broken Bow, Nebraska; eight grandchildren: Peyton Zink and her husband, Colton; Lexie Broeker; Lane Cole and his fiancé, Ariella; Jared Cole; Mitchel Cole; Jolee Sterling; Hadlee Sterling; and Travis Kleeb; her mother, Yvonne Bunnell of Oxford; Loretta’s twin sister, Dolores Bunnell of Holdrege; two sisters: Bernie Quinn of Oxford; and Denise Hoyt and her husband, Jeff of Granbury, Texas; brother, George H. Bunnell, Jr. and his wife, Karen of Oxford; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Visitation was held on Sunday, January 10, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege. Face coverings will be required.
A memorial has been established in Loretta’s honor and kindly suggested to Holdrege Memorial Homes; or to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Holdrege.
