A Private Mass of Christian Burial for Margery L. Hoxmeier was held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Orleans, Nebraska with Father Maurice Current officiating.

An Interment followed at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Orleans.

A Private Rosary was recited at 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Margery Louise Hoxmeier, 94 years of age, of Alma, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society Colonial Villa in Alma. Margery was born on April 10, 1927, at Mascot, Nebraska, the youngest of four children, born to LaSalle and Martena (Christensen) Whitehead. She received her education from Mascot and Alma and graduated from Alma High School with the class of 1935.

On February 1, 1949, she was united in marriage to Frank Alois Hoxmeier at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The couple were blessed with seven children: Craig, Rebecca, David, Karen, Janet, John and Kent. The family made their home on the Hoxmeier family farm, five miles north of Orleans, where they engaged in farming. On December 21, 1985, she was preceded in death by Frank.

Margery enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, mowing, playing cards, and watching Wheel of Fortune, and all sports.

She was a faithful member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, serving in many capacities. She also was a member of a Pinochle group, the Election Commission, and ran the baseball field concession stand.

Margery was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; two sisters; and one brother.

Margery leaves to celebrate her life; her seven children: Craig Hoxmeier and his wife, Betsy of Orleans; Rebecca Malhoit and her husband, Steven of Lincoln, Nebraska; David Hoxmeier of Ponca, Nebraska; Karen Matya and her husband, Thomas of DeKalb, Illinois; Janet Dannelly of Lincoln; John Hoxmeier of Burlington, Kentucky; and Kent Hoxmeier and his wife, Genalee of Lincoln; 25 grandchildren; 35 greatgrandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Private visitation will be held. A memorial has been established in Margery’s honor and kindly suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Orleans.
