Minnie Irene Sughroue, age 89, of Bartley, NE passed away on Friday, August 28, 2026 at Community Hospital in McCook.

Minnie was born September 13, 1936, in Lebanon, NE to parents Marion C and Reva (Mays) Springer. She was one of six children who attended school in Lebanon, graduating with the Class of 1954.

On November 9, 1957, Minnie married Elmo Sughroue at St Johns Catholic Church in Cambridge, NE. The couple made their home on the family farm south of Bartley and were the proud parents of five children. For a short period of time, Minnie worked at TRW before completing thirty-three years of employment at Dayco. Minnie was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church as well as St Johns Altar Society, Cambridge, NE.

Minnie loved life on the farm where her days were spent raising children, tending to the animals and preparing meals for family and friends. She delivered dozens of eggs each week and butchered hundreds of chickens to be sold each year. If that wasn’t enough to keep her busy, Minnie could be found in the kitchen trying new recipes, completing jigsaw puzzles or if time allowed, embroidering beautiful designs. She loved dancing with Elmo, especially the Schottische Dance, and her competitive nature shined on trips to the State Bowling Tournament.

Minnie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmo Sughroue; brothers, Francis Springer and Dale Springer; sisters, Leta (Dewitt) Boyles, Nellie Winters and Dixie (Marvin) Lorentz; grandson, Rafael Hernandez; and great grandchildren, Sage Day and Tommy and Anna Hernandez.

Those left to celebrate her life include her children, Paul (Pam) Sughroue of Sawyer, OK, Marion (Shalene) Sughroue of Bartley, NE, Wilfred (Sheri) Sughroue of Bartley, NE, Debra (Alvaro) Hernandez of Mexia, TX and Rose (Steve) Miller of Corydon, IN; brother in law, Lennie Winters of Imperial, NE; sister in law, Maxine Springer of Thousand Oaks, CA; seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and a host of extended family members and friends.

Memorial contributions are suggested in Minnie’s name for future consideration and can be directed to Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, c/o the Sughroue Family, PO Box 476, McCook, NE 69001.
