Myrl W. Wieland
A memorial service for Myrl W. Wieland will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Oxford, Nebraska with Pastor Brian Jenkins officiating.
Inurnment will follow at the Edison Cemetery in Edison, Nebraska with military honors provided by the Oxford American Legion in conjunction with the United States Navy Honors Team.
Myrl Weslie Wieland, 92 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska, formerly of Oxford, died on Saturday, December 24, 2022, at Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney.
Myrl was born on March 3, 1930, in Arapahoe, Nebraska, to John and Lillie (Fahnholz) Wieland.
On March 20, 1948, he was inducted into the United States Navy and served during the Korean War. On February 18, 1952, he was honorably discharged and moved to Oxford.
He was united in marriage to Virginia Lea Morse and this union was blessed with four children: Katherine, Deborah, Myrl, and Virginia. His wife, Virginia passed away in 1962. Myrl met and married Betty Joan Littrell.
Together with Betty’s two adopted children, the family was complete and they made their home in Holdrege. Betty preceded him in death in 1987.
Myrl worked for KN Energy as a Foreman and welder for over 35 years.
In his retirement, he enjoyed raising livestock, fishing, and hunting.
Myrl enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and led by example rather than by words. Most of all, Myrl loved his family and enjoyed sharing a meal with them all.
Besides his two wives; Myrl was preceded in death by; brothers: George Wieland and Bill Wieland; and sisters: Darlene Wieland; Viola Wendland; Phyllis Wendland; and Marlene Corder; and two sonsin- law: Ken Burton; and Daniel Swatzelle.
Myrl is survived by his children: Katherine Wieland of Wichita, Kansas; Deborah Childs of Gretna, Nebraska; Tom Johnson and his wife, Carla of Holdrege; Myrl Wieland and his wife, Cyndy of Alda, Nebraska; and Virginia Burton of Grove, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren; 15 greatgrandchildren; 2 greatgreat- grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A memorial book signing, will be held prior to the service, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The family has honored Myrl’s wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Myrl’s honor and the family kindly suggests they be made to the First Baptist Church in Oxford or to the local Southern Valley School food backpack blessing program.
