NICO WESSELS

Nico Wessels, age 53, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Arapahoe, Nebraska, USA. It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend. He was born November 1, 1971, in Bultfontein, Freestate, South Africa, to Fritz and Zillia Wessels.

He was married to the love of his life, Christine, and a treasured father, brother and son to his beautiful family. He was an incredibly valued employee at Ag Valley Coop, Inc. in Arapahoe, Nebraska and Norton, Kansas thru the H2A program. Nico was from South Africa.

Nico was a man of great integrity; when you met him, he was always polite and helpful. When farmers came into the warehouse, he knew they came first. Nico could hold a friendly conversation with anyone he met and give you great insight into his thoughts and was truly interested in what you had to say. Nico had a quietness about him, but also had a humorous side, catching you off guard with his orneriness. He would then walk away with a smile on his face.

Nico is survived by his wife, Christine, of their home What if ✩ in Kroonstad, Freestate, South Africa; his father Frik Wessels and brothers Jaco and Donovan Sumner and one sister, Maureen; 4 daughters, Nicole (JD) Wessels, Yvette Samuels, Justine Samuels and Yvonice Samuels; one son Jaco Samuels; 6 grandsons, and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Zillia.

Celebration of Life services will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Faith Community Church, Beaver City, Nebraska. Refreshments will be served after the services, and all are welcome to stay and take time to celebrate and share memories of this wonderful man.
