Norman H. Kerr
Memorial Service for Norman Kerr will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Alma United Methodist Church in Alma, Nebraska, with Pastor Scott Randall officiating. An inurnment will be held at 9:00 a.m., at the Edison Cemetery, Edison, Nebraska, prior to the service.
Norman Harvey Kerr, 90 years of age, of Alma, Nebraska, formerly of Republican City, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Harlan County Health System in Alma. Norman was born on May 18, 1935, in Furnas County, Nebraska, on the family farm near Arapahoe, Nebraska, to Albert M. and Lola O. (Samples) Kerr.
He began his primary education at District #15 near Arapahoe, when it closed, he attended school in Arapahoe one year, and then attended school at Edison Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1953. Following his education he farmed with his father doing custom hay bailing, then began working at the Holdrege Seed Company.
On February 11, 1955, Norman was united in marriage to Barbara C.
Klotthor at Beaver City, Nebraska. This union was blessed with three daughters: Deborah, Dianna, and Denise. The couple made their home in Holdrege, and then moved to California for 15 years where he worked for Gladding, McBean & Company, and then Chino Unified School District. The family settled in Republican City where Norman and Barbara owned and operated Kerr’s Kountry Store in Republican City. Later, Norman began working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, retiring in 2001.
As a family they enjoyed camping, shooting, family outings, and spending time with their church family. Norman enjoyed reloading, trap shooting (he was a charter member of the Oxford Outdoor Club), hunting, fishing, tending his yard, was an avid reader, and taught Hunter Safety for several years. Spending time with family and friends was always a pleasure; His wit and humor made sharing stories and experiences something everyone cherished.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sibling in infancy; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Sue Kerr; and Linda Lou Kerr; parents-in-law, Fred and Jessie Klotthor; and three brothers-inlaw: Clyde Klotthor; Jim Klotthor; and Allan Daily.
Norman leaves to celebrate his life, his wife of over 70 years, Barbara Kerr of Alma; his children: Deborah Wensink and her husband, Harlan of Gooding, Idaho; Dianna Melton and her husband, Dean of Alma; and Denise Michael and her husband, Darrell of Amite, Louisiana; five grandchildren: Erik Wensink (Trina) of Twin Falls, Idaho; Donny Wensink (Rachel) of Moscow, Idaho; Sara Zikmund (Tom) of Alma; Kerri Clark (Matthew) of Youngsville, Louisiana; and Ryan Melton of Alma; eleven greatgrandchildren: Hanna, Jenna, Corban, Keeley, Barrett, Cole, Reyce, Bronx, Rowyn, Rhett, and Georgia, one sister, Anna Daily of Holdrege; three brothers: Wayne Kerr and his wife, Mary Ann of Elwood, Nebraska; Jerry Kerr of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Jimmy Kerr of Oxford, Nebraska; inlaws: Mary Lou Klotthor of Alma; Floyd Klotthor and wife, Adela of Santa Maria, California; Christy Klotthor of Newnan, Georgia; Douglas Klotthor and his wife, Jan of Milliken, Colorado; and Cher Livesey and her husband, John of Dundas, Ontario, Canada; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
There will be no visitation, viewing, or memorial book signing prior to the service.
