Vivian Lee (Lonn) McDorman, 76 years of age, of rural Funk, NE, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege, NE with her family by her side. Vivian was born on August 8, 1944, the fourth of five children of Roy F.S. and Almeda (Covey) Lonn in Omaha, NE. Vivian was raised in Arapahoe, NE, where she attended school, graduating with the class of 1962.
Vivian was blessed to have had many people to love and who loved her. Vivian was united in marriage to Gary Miller in 1964. They enjoyed air boating together and driving their Ford Mustangs. The couple later divorced.
In 1985, Vivian and Charles McDorman became parents to Bryon Charles and soon after, Matthew Roy. On August 7, 1986, Vivian was united in marriage to Charles McDorman in Markel, IN. Being their mama was her favorite job, and the most important thing to her.
Vivian worked many different jobs over the years, especially while she and the boys followed Charles from state to state, as he worked as an ironworker. Vivian is most remembered for her work, when she was cooking for others. She spent many hours working at the Funk School, as the cook. Students at the school remember her for making them muffins that were “just for them” and spraying them with the sink hose just to watch them laugh. They loved Viv as their “lunch lady.” She was also famous in the paper for riding her motorcycle in the middle of winter to her job in the hospital lab.
Vivian has always had a love for animals, whether that was her pet monkeys, chickens, ducks, dogs, cats and parakeets, or the squirrels, rabbits and foxes in the yard. Vivian loved to give gifts to show her love for you or buy something “just because.” Her mind was always thinking about other people. She loved singing to her family.
Vivian was preceded in death by; her parents; a brother, Spencer Lonn and his wife, Mary Lou; a sister, Iola E. (Lonn) Anderson and her husband, Jess; greatnephew, Jason Stroup; brother-in-law, Don Baumann; Vivian’s first husband, Gary Miller; and her sweet pets.
Vivian leaves to celebrate her life: her husband, Charles McDorman of Funk; two sons: Bryon McDorman and his wife, Erin of Holdrege; and Matt McDorman and his wife, Diana of Holdrege; three “grand pets”: Diesel, Mauser, and Zeke; two sisters: Daphna Stagemeyer and her husband, Paul of Arapahoe, NE; and Patty Baumann of Funk; several nieces: Diane (Al) Rager of Holdrege; Donna (Tim) Goldsberry of Lincoln, NE; Deb (Mike) Wagner of Eagle; NE; and Cindy (Kurt) Hamel of Holbrook, NE; nephews: Micky Stagemeyer of Kearney, NE; Doug (Carma) Anderson of Funk; and Daren (Jeana) Popple of Funk; along with many more friends and family.
The family has honored Vivian’s wish for cremation. There was no visitation or viewing.
A memorial has been established in Vivian’s honor and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
