WANDA W. HEDGES
Wanda Darlene Wolzen was born November 26, 1929, near Hendley, Nebraska, to John and Lyda (Ruhs) Wolzen. She died Thursday, February 4, 2021, at Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, due to complications from Covid-19.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church at Hendley. She attended elementary school in Hendley and graduated from Beaver City High School in 1947. She also attended Central Business College in Denver, Colorado. She was Deputy County Clerk of Furnas County for two years and worked at other clerical jobs at various times throughout her lifetime.
She was married to Gerald Hedges of Beaver City on April 9, 1950, at Hendley. They lived in Beaver City and on a farm near Wilsonville until 1955, when they moved to Lincoln for one year. They lived in Martell, Nebraska six years and then bought a farm near Bennet in 1962, all in Lancaster County. They lived on their farm 50 years, during which time she was an active member of the Bennet Community Church and Lamplighter’s Circle, as well as a children’s Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a member of the Federated Women’s Club and the Bennet Community Builders Club. They moved to the Waterford Assistsed Living facility in Lincoln in 2012.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, and son, John.
She is survived by her three daughters: Alice (Rex) Mihulka of Columbus, Phyllis (Bill) Kingery and Margery (Cary) Petersen, all of Lincoln; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother and wife, Stanley and June Wolzen of Dixon, IL; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was Monday, February 8, from 10-5 at Wyuka Funeral Home. Funeral servies were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 9 at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Darin Corder officiating. Burial followed at the Bennet Cemetery. Online condolences can be left at www.wyuka.com
