OVERTON - A rough first half, particularly in the second quarter, sabotaged any chance for the Arapahoe girls basketball team in their season-opening game at Overton Thursday.

The Eagles outscored the Warriors 16-2 in the second quarter to blow open a 28-8 lead at halftime. From there, Overton rolled away to a 58-32 victory to begin the season 1-0.

Arapahoe outshot the Eagles from the field, but they were crushed on the boards as Overton outrebounded them 39-24 for the game, including 23 offensive boards that kept Eagles possessions going. Arapahoe also struggled with 36 turnovers.

Arapahoe trailed 12-6 after one quarter before the Eagles blew the game open in the second. The Warriors offense got back on track in the third, but Overton still stretched the lead to 44-18 through three. Each team scored 14 points in the fourth.

Hope Koller and Gentry Warner each scored eight to lead the Warriors while Marissah Nordine added six. Tracy Roskop and Emerson Swanson each scored four.

Warner grabbed eight rebounds for Arapahoe while Roskop had four and Swan-son and Koller each had three. Hilary Downey had three steals and Roskop had four assists while Swanson dished out three.
