Bulls ride scoring explosion to win over Roughriders
The Hi-Line boys basketball team was relentless on offense Saturday as it rode a hot a 41-point first half to a 73-56 victory over Southwest Saturday, its first of the season.
Hi-Line started out strong, outscoring Southwest 25-14 in the first quarter. The team’s matched 16 points in the second quarter, but the Knights extended the lead in the second half, overpowering the Roughriders, 19-15 and 13-11 in the third and fourth, respectively.
Hi-Line shot just 29 percent from the field, but made it to the line 35 times, where the Bulls knocked down 19.
The Bulls’ Cade Schmidt led four team members in double-figures scoring with 18 points while Isaiah Bulls scored 14 and Ryker Evans finished with 13.
Schmidt had a double-double, adding 15 rebounds and Nate Hodge chipped in another with 10 points and 13 boards. Hodge added four assists while Treyton Evans had five steals and Schmidt had four.
Kaiden Ruggles was the high scorer for the Roughriders, earning 14 of the team’s points. Hunter Cunningham followed with 11, Kaden Day sunk 10, Justin Brush added nine, with Nathan Rippe contributing six, Zack Ryan, three, and Cole Barnett, three.
Overall, the team was 3-of-16 from behind the arc, 18-of-49 from inside and 11-of-25 from the line.
Brush grabbed eight rebounds, including five defensive and three offensive; Cunningham also grabbed eight,. Day grabbed five defensive rebounds.
Cunningham handed out five assists while Barnett and Ruggles dished out two. Day and Barnett snagged three steals.
